In 1990, Anasuya was a lawyer in Brazil and was preparing to give birth to her first child. When she went into labor, the doctor insisted on a c-section. Knowing her rights, Anasuya declined. The doctor tried intimidating her, but since she refused, the staff abandoned her in her birthing process. Hours later, Anasuya gave birth to her child in squatted position in the corner of a room. This experience gave Anasuya the power and strength to educate women on the right to consent and refusal for the benefit of the mother and baby.
Thus, Anasuya has made it her life's mission to educate women about informed consent and refusal and remind them of their innate ability to give birth naturally in a relaxed and meditative state.
